Artifacts
Below are artifacts that demonstrate my competencies in various areas in higher education. I invite you to click on each green button which will lead you to an example of work that I have done or support from my students over the past two years of the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at IU Bloomington.
Competency: Advising and Supporting
This is a nomination for an Of The Month (OTM) Award through National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) for Advisor of the Month. I was awarded the “Advisor Of The Month” award for August of 2025; recognized at the campus and regional level. Through my graduate assistantship in Residence Life, I am the advisor for my center’s Student Government through RHA. My student government president at the time wrote this nomination for me attesting to my advising skills and the deep care and intention I have within my advising position.
Competency: Social Justice and Inclusion
This document is the first page of the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Orientation Program Booklet that I made. I hold a Graduate Intern position with IUSM within their Medical Service Learning Department. As part of my internship, I work with the Common Read Experience which involves the incoming class reading a book in common and then engaging with the material during their orientation. As part of their orientation, I helped to plan and put together a panel of experts who could discuss topics found in the 2025 Common Read Book, Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green. This work highlights my competency in Social Justice and Inclusion as I put together a panel with a wide range of speakers who could attest to different aspects of public health in an order to create more discussion and knowledge sharing for tuberculosis and it’s effects on various populations.
Competency: Leadership
For my internship with IUSM, I co-developed a Reading Guide which was a non-comprehensive guide to the book, Everything is Tuberculosis by
John Green. This Reading Guide was primarily compiled by me with editing assistance from members of the Common Read Committee. The Reading Guide totaled 18 pages and included character and location descriptions and a summary of each chapter in the book. I exhibited leadership through taking point on this project and working to create the
necessary materials by the deadline.
Competency: Advising and Supporting
This is a Recommendation Letter I wrote for one of my staff members. This letter shows my competency with Advising and Supporting as I am able to speak to my RAs ability as a staff member and student. I also support my RAs outside of their work as staff members which exemplifies my holistic approach to advising and supporting the students I work with.
Competency: Personal and Ethical Foundations
This is a paper I wrote for my Academic Problems in Higher Education course. I wrote this paper on the usage of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the higher education landscape. This shows my competence in the
personal and ethical foundations because I have worked to advocate against AI usage because of its impacts on the environment and on critical
thinking skills.
Competency: Leadership
This is the Hooding Invitation I designed for the 2025 Master’s and Doctoral Hooding Ceremony for the graduating Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) class. In my role as Vice President of the IU Student Personnel Association (SPA), I planned and executed the IU HESA Hooding Ceremony in May of 2025 for 15 Master’s Candidates, 10 Doctoral Candidates, and over 200 guests. This work shows leadership as I managed the logistics and planning of the event and managed a team of
my fellow SPA Board Members to aid on the day of the ceremony. I took initiative and managed multiple projects and moving pieces within the Hooding Ceremony. The event ran smoothly and provided a successful celebration for the graduates!
Competency: Leadership
This is an expectations document I collaboratively made to provide guidance for my Resident Assistants (RAs) to have an outline they could refer to when needing expectations for creating their bulletin boards. Bulletin boards are a portion of the RA role and by having more standardized guidelines, it
gives the RAs a standard to achieve and a document to hold themaccountable for meeting expectations. By creating this document and
outlining standards, I have shown leadership and taking initiative for setting and upholding standards for the RAs on my staff.
Competency: Leadership + Advising and Supporting
This is a Canva presentation from one of my Small Staff Meetings. Small Staff Meetings are when I meet with my 12 direct supervisees and provide them updates and check in with them as a whole. In each meeting, I add more whimsical elements such as a mood board and having a fun Canva theme so that as we are discussing work, there is still space to enjoy and have fun. I also work to regularly incorporate feedback from my direct supervisees, especially at the midpoint of a semester, which is shown through my check in slide. This Canva shows my Leadership and
Advising and Supporting because I work to maintain a positive and encouraging leadership style while making regular space for feedback and checking in on the wellbeing of my staff members. By being open to feedback, it encourages more open dialogue with my staff.
Competency: Leadership
This is a contract from a staff bonding event that I planned for my staff. I took initiative to set up the event and be the main point of contact in organizing the event, working with a planner from the venue to set a budget and plan for the event. This shows my leadership through my taking initiative to plan and execute this event for my staff.
Competency: Advising and Supporting
This is a thank you note from one of my student staff members. This shows my ability of advising and supporting because I work to go above
and beyond to show and tell my staff members they are supported in their positions as RAs and as students and human beings.
